Everyone Has an Accent Except me
by John H. Esling
"Everyone has a accent except me" let me give time to think about the value of accent. To me who learn English as a second language, my own accent was a thing I had to remove for acquiring Standard English. However, this essay have changed my whole thoughts about accent. Unlike the title, I was thinking I had an strong accent when speaking English and it would be terrible if I did not make an effort to correct my accent. Now, I became to realize it was totally wrong. First of all, the expression "correcting an accent" is not proper. Toward what kind of accent shoud I change? Everyone has their own accent and people should not rank those accent. This is because an accent shows thier own nationality and individuality. In other words, it represents their own originality. As if we cannot determine the order of nationality value, no one definitely make a decision which accent is nicer. Accent is a mirror of their own mother touge, identity, culture and nationality. This paper evoke me of having to cherish my own accent.
