[Assignment Two: Languages, Texts and Communities]
1. Making an outline
The topic professor gave us was that each writer locates, analyzes, and writes about at least five artifacts that represents the diverse way that language is being used in a particular place or community.
At the first time, I had no idea about this topic and I could not understand how I exactly define artifacts in my essay. Even though the assignment paper indicated the order of beginning the essay but everything was confused to me.
What on earth is an artifact? Only this sentence was full of my head at the stage of building an outline.
The due date of submitting an outline was coming so I just chose my main interest "Movie." The Professor asked the class to choose one community or place they want to write and analyze at least three artifacts on their own daily journal notebook.
As two pictures have indicated, I selected just "Movie" as a topic of second assingment and I chose four artifacts: advertisements on TV or the internet, pamphlets at movie theater, audience's comments and movie posters on street. I was not sure my essay goes on right direction at that time.
So after the class, I asked to professor about my outline and she gave me very useful tips to build my outline. She told me like that my topic seemed like be creative but it could be too general for readers. She told me if I want to pick up movie as a topic, I should fix one specific movie club or movie site or festival or etc. Also, my classmates realized my difficulties of understanding topic and they helped me fix the specific topic by showing their outlines. Thanks to the professor and classmate's advice, I restarted to make outline and finally I selected the new topic, that is my department "English Education"!

To find special artifacts and gain helpful information to write an essay, I visited the Facebook page and the department official website. Also, I had read again the book I received from the Dep before. Thorough those process, finally I was able to complete the first draft!:D

5. Meeting the professor at her office
and receiving useful advice from her
On April 24th, I discussed my draft with the professor at her office. When I revised my essay long time, I could not see my draft objectively because I was too much familiar with what I wrote. It made me easily miss errors on my paper. At this time, the professor's tip had substantial influence on progressing my work. Also, she hold me to take an objective view of the paper again.
Her comments:
-The strong influence of American culture
-Study of English culture+language
